Mom finds same lady and child on street whom she saw on TV news—then rushes to make one offer

To ensure that her young son didn’t miss school, this mom used to walk him the 2-mile trek to school every day, as she couldn’t afford a car.

Kim Bellus and her son Gabe, a second-grader, live about 2 miles away from Carriage Elementary school. Unfortunately, he doesn’t get the privilege to get there on the school bus, as The Papillon La Vista Community Schools district regulations offer free rides only to students who live more than 4 miles away.

Kim, a stay-at-home mom and a full time student, couldn’t afford a car, so she had to walk Gabe to and from school every day—a tiring journey of 45 minutes.

In August 2015, KMTV did a story of Kim and Gabe.

Kim told them that she didn’t mind the walk while the weather was nice. But she was concerned about what would happen when the weather is freezing. “[the walk] is not a problem at this point, but it’s gonna be a problem when the winds are 30 below,” Kim told KMTV.

“I’m kind of tired. I’m really tired when I get back,” Gabe said.

Fortunately, one of their neighbors, Becky Novotny, saw the story on TV. She felt like she had to do something for them. She decided to offer them a daily ride. Becky has three children, and one of them goes to the same school as Gabe.

“I’m a stay-at-home mom. I have three kids. If I was in the same situation, I’d think I want someone to help me. It’s a small town. You’re there for everybody,” Becky told KMTV.

Kim couldn’t thank Becky more for her kindness and help. Becky’s thoughtful gesture saved Gabe enough time to study, play, and have fun, while at the same time his mom would not need to worry over cold weather.
