13-Year-Old Mother Leaves Newborn Baby In Dumpster, Then Grandma Finds Her Covered In Flies.

Police don’t know why she did it. They don’t know whether she was in threat or if she just didn’t know that there were better options. In any case, when a 13-year-old mother left her newborn baby girl, still with umbilical line, in a Sacramento dumpster, she beyond any doubt was fortunate that Annette and Jimmy Alvarez discovered her.

In October 2014, a man was rummaging through a dumpster close to the Alvarez’s loft complex. The couple heard the man shout for help and rushed over.

Inside the dumpster, they discovered a newborn baby, wrapped in a towel. Surrounded by old food, flies, and gnats, Jimmy reached in and grabbed the baby girl.

“She was cold and she wasn’t really moving, but as soon as I was rubbing her and getting her warmed up, she gasped for air and cried,” Annette Alvarez said. “I said, ‘Oh my god.’ I think she was going to die if we had not found her.”

Jimmy took off his shirt and wrapped the newborn in it. The baby, just hours old, was taken to a hospital and reportedly healthy. The 13-year-old mother was identified by police but her identity has been kept anonymous due to her age.

As for Annette and Jimmy? The grandparents and great-grandparents of 37 children adopted the little one.

“You know, if you would have held her, you wouldn’t want to let her go. You’d be fighting for her, too,” Annette said. “I’ve been a foster parent before and kids just touch my heart, because they don’t ask to be here.”
